Gary Kavanagh


Born in Jersey (1964), Gary started playing trumpet at the age of 6. He began playing
professionally at the age of 15.
Gary studied with Ack Van Rooyen at the Koninklijk Conservatorium.
Over the last 30 years plus he has worked internationally as an soloist in a variety of
settings from small groups to big bands. He is currently the brass tutor at the international
British Schools in the Netherlands.

Tenor saxophone

Simon Rigter


Being the son of saxophone player Bob Rigter, Simon Rigter (The Netherlands, 1973) grew up in a musical environment. At age 10 he started taking classical flute lessons and at age 12 Simon started playing the saxophone.
He studied at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, where he was taught by John Ruocco. Subsequently, he studied with Ferdinand Povel at the Hilversum Conservatoire.

Robert Koemans


Pianist/composer/arranger Robert Koemans (1993) is part of the upcoming new generation of jazz musicians and earned his stripes as a sideman in various corners of Dutch jazz. Being a former student of Udo van Boven he graduated cum laude at The Royal Conservatory of The Hague and from Codarts Rotterdam in 2017. In addition to his work on stage, Robert also works as a composer and arranger for others.
Besides his performing musical activities, Robert is a teacher at the Jong KC and a theory teacher at Codarts Rotterdam.

Double bass

Started guitar lessons at the age of 7. Around the age of thirteen, fellow student and friend Gijs Idema asked if he could come and play bass guitar in his band. A little later, he studied classical double bass for two years and thus rolled into jazz. And a conservatory study? Not for the time being. His studies at the Delft University of Technology can be easily combined with his musicianship. A self-confident musician, who, in addition to the guitar and double bass, recently also has an (electric) piano in his student room in Delft. “I’ve also started doing that a bit.”

Drums

Sander Smeets


Sander (1996) started at the age of 5 with drum lessons. At the age of 16 he started his studies at the Conservatory in Tilburg. A year later he went to the Rotterdam Conservatory, Codarts. Here he was taught by Hans van Oosterhout, Joost Patocka and Mark Schilders. He went on an exchange to New Orleans, where he was taught by Herlin Riley, Ricky Sebastian and Jason Marsalis. He has already been able to share the stage with the big names from the national and international jazz scene including: Roy Hargrove, Rufus Reid, Philip Harper, Ellis Marsalis, Benjamin Herman, Peter Beets, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and many others.
